Calahonda is a large urbanisation within easy reach of the airport, which is a very popular location for British residents. Although still an urbanisation, it is a well developed area with a good infrastructure and a permanent community unlike many of the smaller developments along the Coast. Due to its popularity with tourists and international residents there has been a high level of development in Calahonda stretching up into the hills behind. Renting long term in Calahonda is a good choice for ex-pat families, as there are several international and Spanish schools nearby, as well as good medical facilities. Usually international schools cater for children from the ages of 3 to 18, but in Calahonda there is also the European Sixth Form College which handles secondary education. Within easy striking distance of Calahonda, there is the English International College at Elviria and St Anthonys College in Mijas Costa, both of which offer bus services. The modern Costa del Sol hospital is just a short drive away and Fuengirola has two large health centres.
