If you’re relocating to Spain, it pays to do your research from home as much as possible before you arrive. In this current market property prices are falling and there are some great bargains to be had. However, the Costa del Sol is a big and varied place, so you need to know exactly where you want to be before you take the plunge.
Before you make the move, check out local websites and forums such as ThinkSpain, SpainExpat, AngloINFO and EyeOnSpain to find out what’s going on, what opportunities are available and what area would be best for you. If you have a particular area in mind then there are some more focused sites such as Andalucia.com which is a great source of information if you’re moving to the South of Spain.
HomeRentalontheWeb have produced some area guides to Spain, starting with the main areas along the Costa del Sol. We will be adding to these area guides as the site continues to grow, so make sure you come back to see what’s new. If you would like some support and advice, our helpful team are happy to discuss your particular needs and what there is on offer to help you decide.
However, nothing beats actually being here and experiencing the areas for yourself. We recommend a preliminary visit touring various areas to get a feel for them and to narrow down your options. Perhaps this may mean renting a holiday property for a week or so while you do your research.
Once you have a few different areas in mind, it makes sense to start looking at long-term rental accommodation in these areas. The properties available at the time will help you decide where to be and how much it’s likely to cost. Viewing properties to rent will then give you a further insight into these areas.
By living in a place for six months, you will know the pros and cons of the area and be able to make an informed decision about buying property in Spain, or whether you wan to continue renting to experience other areas. Many people try long term renting in Spain in two or three different areas before finding their ideal location and it’s a great way to keep your options open.
Once you are based here and making yourself at home in rented accommodation, it is also much easier to look for the perfect property to buy. Being “on the ground” you can search online and in person, get to know the local agents and go and visit properties for sale. By living here you can take your time and get the best bargain in the right area.
