La Cala de Mijas, or La Cala as it is usually known, is a pretty beachside town, popular with ex-pat residents and holiday makers alike. It’s well known for its wide sandy beaches, busy town centre and twice-weekly market.

La Cala is well-located between Malaga and Marbella and within easy reach of the most popular destinations. Although it isn’t a large town, it is well served by shops stocking Spanish and International goods, and has a local doctor's surgery with a volunteer translator service, a post-office, police station, and a selection of nice bars and restaurants. As it is near to both Calahonda and Fuengirola, a host of other amenities for the English-speaking resident are always close, by including hospitals and International schools.

La Cala is a popular retirement destination, for its combination of leisure and sporting facilities as well as its fellow ex-pat community. The beautiful beaches connect up with the urbanisation of Riviera del Sol which is a lovely long walk. The countryside behind the town is stunning, and a short drive away is some of the most beautiful countryside in the area. For golfers, the La Cala golf resort has three excellent championship courses to choose from as well as a stunning health and beauty spa.
